In Niergnies, Cambrai Planeur Aéroclub offers a 30-minute introductory flight in the front seat of a two-seat glider, with the pilot at the controls behind the passenger. The airfield has two launch methods, allowing visitors to experience either the winch's acceleration or a more gradual climb behind a tow plane.
Thirty minutes for €130 in 2026
The introductory flight page lists a price of €130, including insurance. Weight including clothing must be below 105 kg, height must exceed 1.50 m, and a minimum age of 14 is recommended. Sunglasses and a hat are among the suggested items.
Winch or tow plane: what is the difference?
The club's two winches can lift gliders to around 400 m. The tow plane takes them to roughly 500 m, directly into an area where the pilot will seek rising air. In both cases, the flight continues without an engine once released.
What to know before flying
The introductory flight depends on weather and available places. The club also asks passengers to avoid deep diving in the previous 48 hours; pregnancy, certain medications or medical histories may require medical advice.
Cambrai stands out for its well-defined 30-minute package and for offering both winch launching and aerotowing at one airfield, giving first-time visitors an understanding of the two main ways to launch a glider.
