The Bergerie de Basseta is on the plateau du Cuscionu, directly on the GR20 between Usciolu and Asinau. It lets you break up this part of the route in scenery very different from the ridges: beech woodland, streams, pozzines and free-roaming animals.
How long does it take from Usciolu?
The sheep farm gives a walking time of around 4 hours 15 minutes between Usciolu and Basseta, then around 4 hours 45 minutes to Asinau heading north to south. This makes it a practical stop to avoid unnecessarily extending the day on the plateau.
What walkers come here for
Basseta highlights the pozzines, natural pools and horses or pigs found on Cuscionu. The site opens seasonally, generally from May to October.
The stop's speciality
Meals centre on family cooking and produce from the sheep farm, particularly homemade charcuterie. This is a real difference from the more standardised PNRC refuges.
Before you visit
Cuscionu is vast and its terrain is less easy to read than a ridge: paying attention to GR20 waymarks remains important, especially where several tracks or paths cross the plateau.
A little extra
Basseta is more than somewhere to sleep: it is one of the stops where the GR20 takes on a pastoral character, with pozzines, animals and farm produce surrounding the walker.
