The Collectif d'Artistes Céramistes, in Saint-Denis, offers pottery and ceramics classes and courses led by ceramicist Henri Erambert. Sessions are intended both for beginners and those with some experience.
What can you learn?
The work focuses on the potter's essential techniques: hand-building, shaping and wheel throwing. Participants discover methods including the ball, coil, slab, impressions and use of the wheel, then can decorate their creations with slips or patina.
Guidance adapts to each person's project rather than imposing the same piece on the whole group.
Deliberately small groups
Hand-building sessions generally welcome 2 to 4 participants. For wheel throwing, capacity falls to a maximum of 2 people, from age 15, allowing very close guidance.
Good to know before you visit
Advance registration is compulsory. Regular classes mainly take place during school terms and wheel-throwing courses complete the programme.
A little something extra
The venue operates as a genuine ceramicist's workshop rather than a one-off activity: visitors can come to discover ceramics, but also continue a personal project and progress in several techniques.
