On the 8th floor of Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann, the panoramic terrace offers one of the most accessible viewpoints over Paris's rooftops. You do not need to reserve a table or buy a ticket: rooftop access is free and no reservation is needed, regardless of the restaurants and bars that occasionally occupy part of the terrace.
A free panoramic view of Paris
From La Terrasse, the panorama takes in several major landmarks of the capital. From the terrace, you can notably spot:
- the Eiffel Tower;
- the Opéra Garnier, directly across boulevard Haussmann;
- the Sacré-Cœur on Montmartre hill;
- Notre-Dame de Paris;
- the Haussmann-style rooftops and the department store's Art Nouveau dome.
The rooftop is outdoors and directly above the Coupole store.
Do you need to buy anything to access the rooftop?
No. Access to the panoramic terrace is free: no ticket, reservation or purchase is needed to enjoy the view.
Dining and bar areas may, however, be present on the rooftop. Their concepts change with the seasons: they offer an additional experience, rather than being a requirement for terrace access.
Rooftop restaurants and bars
Galeries Lafayette regularly uses its rooftop for dining concepts and seasonal bars. The Balcon bistro is located on the 8th-floor terrace, and temporary venues may also operate during the warmer months.
If you specifically want to have lunch, dinner or a drink with a view, check which venues are currently operating and their booking arrangements before visiting.
How do you reach the terrace?
The terrace is in the main Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann – Coupole store, at 40 boulevard Haussmann, 75009 Paris.
Inside, follow the Terrasse / Rooftop signs and go up to the 8th floor. Escalators lead to the terrace. For accessibility, lifts serve the 7th floor and staff can assist visitors for the final part of the journey.
The closest metro stations listed by Galeries Lafayette are Chaussée d’Antin – La Fayette (lines 7 and 9) and Opéra (lines 3, 7 and 8).
Opening hours and weather
The terrace is accessible during the store's opening hours, but these may vary by day, season or public holiday.
Importantly, as it is entirely outdoors, the rooftop may be temporarily closed in rain, strong winds or adverse weather conditions. Check the day's opening hours before making a special trip to the terrace.
Good to know for photographs
For photographs, around one hour before sunset offers particularly attractive light over Paris. The panorama allows you to frame the Opéra Garnier, Eiffel Tower, Montmartre and the rows of Parisian rooftops together.
Combine your visit with the dome
Before or after visiting the rooftop, take a few minutes to admire the famous Art Nouveau dome inside the Coupole store. The terrace and dome offer two very different but complementary experiences within the same building: one focuses on the Paris skyline, the other on the department store's architecture.
As rooftop opening hours, weather-related closures and the venues operating on the terrace may change, check these details on the day of your visit.
