At La Logeraie in Barenton, the Musée du Poiré tells the story of a speciality associated with the Mortainais and Domfrontais areas. Set in a former farm, it explores the history of orchards, harvesting and transforming apples and pears.
Poiré and its traditions
Historic objects, presses and hands-on displays show how producers developed their drinks over generations. The museum also highlights the hedged fields and meadows characteristic of the Norman bocage.
The conservation orchard
A distinctive feature of the visit is an orchard containing around a hundred apple and pear varieties. Exhibitions and workshops may complement the displays depending on the season. Local farm products are also presented.
What to know
For 2026, the tourist office advertises free admission and opening from 1 April to 31 October, subject to updates. It is an excellent introduction to the heritage of poiré rather than simply stopping for a tasting.
