In La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, Bois de la Desnerie covers approximately 15 hectares on the banks of the Erdre. This departmental sensitive natural area combines oak, beech and chestnut with wetter areas where willows, alders and ash trees grow.
What will you find in the wood?
The site is the former park of Château de la Desnerie, built in the 15th century. Today, paths run through the riverside woodland close to the Erdre, with a changing atmosphere between dry ground and wetland areas.
The Department acquired the wood in 2001 to preserve the natural space and open it to the public. It is accessible year-round to walkers, cyclists and horse riders on permitted routes.
What to know before visiting
Stay on marked trails. Dogs are allowed on a lead; fires, camping and foraging are prohibited. Several access points are available, including from rue du Port Barbe or route de la Métairie Rouge.
La Desnerie chiefly offers a short wooded walk along the Erdre, with a changing setting of old parkland, forest and wetland habitats.
