In Anglet, the Forêt du Pignada is a large pine woodland crossed by walking paths and cycle tracks. Its appeal lies in this natural green space within the Basque urban area, between residential neighbourhoods and the coast. Visitors must, however, take account of access restrictions following wildfires.
Which areas can you explore?
Access to Anglet's Pignada forest remains partial following the fires and summer prevention measures. The fire-damaged northern sections and certain buffer zones remain closed and fenced off, although some walking routes are accessible. Along authorised paths, visitors can enjoy the maritime pines and explore on foot or by bicycle. The cycle path reopened along its full length in the spring.
Rules to know before your walk
In the open sections, access is reportedly prohibited between 9 pm and 6 am. Fires, smoking, camping overnight and collecting dead wood are forbidden. These rules may change depending on weather-related fire risks and local by-laws. Check the City of Anglet's latest guidance and respect all fences. The Pignada remains an appealing place for a walk, but the best route now depends on which areas are actually open.
