In Boulogne-sur-Mer, Char à Voile Boulonnais (CVB) is both a public land-yachting school and a sports club, at 272 boulevard Sainte-Beuve opposite the coast. Sessions are supervised and the sport can be practised year-round outside the Christmas holidays, by reservation.
Which session should you choose?
For sporty adults and teenagers aged 12 or over and at least 1.50 m tall, CVB offers an approximately two-hour session at €39 per person in 2026. After learning the basics, the instructor adapts the rest to the conditions: a ride, supervised driving or a set course. The land yacht, helmet and access to the driving area are included.
With children
For family groups, the stated minimum age is 8. The club also welcomes school and activity-centre groups from age 6 when they take part in an appropriate group. For adult groups, the rule remains a minimum age of 12 and height of 1.50 m; the stated maximum weight for land yachting is 110 kg.
What to know before visiting
Here, the wind really determines the programme. The instructor assesses conditions at the time of the session and may cancel land yachting if there is insufficient wind. At booking, an option allows participants to agree to a sea-kayaking trip if a replacement session is organised and spaces remain.
For groups
CVB is particularly well equipped for groups: friends, adults, young people, schools and specialist organisations, with an advertised capacity of up to 120 people depending on the format. For large groups, contact the club directly rather than relying solely on online availability.
An extra detail
The beach at Boulogne has pools of seawater that land yachts may pass through depending on the route. The club therefore recommends warm clothes, shoes or boots that can get wet and a change of clothes; gloves, protective overalls or goggles may be offered as extras.
