In Menton, the Jardin botanique Val Rahmeh brings together around 1,800 subtropical, tropical and Mediterranean species on a former acclimatisation estate now part of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle. Palms, citrus trees, bamboo, aquatic plants and rare species form a botanical trail benefiting from Menton's microclimate and a terrace overlooking the sea.
A living collection worth protecting
The garden represents around 160 botanical families and 700 genera. More than a hundred species found here feature on the IUCN Red List: a visit therefore reveals both the diversity of plant forms and the conservation, acclimatisation and research work undertaken on site. The garden has held the Jardin remarquable label since 2014.
What to know before visiting
In 2026, the garden is closed on Tuesdays. Until 31 October, it opens from 10:00 to 18:00; from 1 November to 31 March, from 10:00 to 17:00. Full-price admission is €8, reduced admission €6, notably for ages 3–25, and the family group ticket €24. Public transport access is possible from Menton Garavan station or bus route 1, at the stadium stop.
An extra highlight
The Victoria water lilies, famous for their enormous floating leaves, are replanted each May and are said to be at their best from mid-July to late October: a useful guide when choosing when to visit.
