The sentier Blanc-Martel is a major one-way hike in the Gorges du Verdon, between chalet de la Maline and Point Sublime. Over approximately 16 km, the route follows the GR®4 close to the canyon, alternating ledge paths, descents, stairways and tunnels. Allow around 5 hrs 30 mins of walking, excluding breaks, with nearly 500 m of ascent and 700 m of descent.
Notable sections
The route passes pas d’Issane, la Mescla and brèche Imbert, with its 252 steps, before the Trescaïre and Baou tunnels and the Couloir Samson area. A torch is essential for the tunnels. Bring hiking shoes, plenty of water and sun protection.
A hike that needs planning
This crossing requires good fitness and advance organisation: it is not a circular walk, so you need to plan how to return to the starting point. In season, the Blanc-Martel shuttle helps arrange transport between trail access points; check its dates and conditions before setting off.
Check conditions in 2026
The route may be affected by closures and diversions following rockfalls or works. Before leaving, consult the latest information from Verdon Tourisme and local instructions, then follow the waymarks on site. Dogs and mountain bikes are not allowed on the trail.
Blanc-Martel is distinguished by its walk through the canyon, tunnels and stairways: a demanding day's hike requiring preparation for both the physical effort and the logistics.
