In Montlouis-sur-Loire, Gueuleton occupies a genuine cellar carved into tuffeau limestone, directly on quai Albert Baillet opposite the Loire. The stone setting is not a decorative imitation: the restaurant is built into the rock and specialises in meat, grilled dishes and food for sharing.
A hearty dining spot in the tuffeau
The menu highlights quality cuts of beef, charcuterie, cheese and other regional produce depending on current offerings. Wine also plays an important role, notably whites from the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation, fitting for a venue in the middle of the vineyards.
The little extra
The cellar overlooks the banks of the Loire and lies directly on the La Loire à Vélo cycling route. The contrast is striking: outside, the river and quayside; inside, pale tuffeau stone and the atmosphere of a troglodyte cellar.
What to know before visiting
The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Sundays. Parking is available along the quay, in front of or very close to the establishment.
Gueuleton Montlouis therefore differs from traditional fouée bread cellars: here, the troglodyte setting mainly accompanies dining focused on meat, fire and Loire wines.
