Built from 1750 to 1752 at the request of the marquis de Voyer d'Argenson, the Château d'Asnières is a valuable example of rococo architecture from the reign of Louis XV. Its plans were drawn up by Jacques Hardouin-Mansart de Sagonne, while sculptor Nicolas Pineau contributed to the decoration.
What makes this château so special?
Its 18th-century drawing rooms, staircases and ironwork reveal the refinement of a country retreat near Paris. In particular, the gallery has regained wood panelling by Nicolas Pineau that had previously been removed, bought back and reinstalled after a long absence. Gradually restored by the town council, the château retains the atmosphere of a collector’s home.
Which tour should you choose?
The Dimanches du Marquis offer tours recounting the life of the estate and its owner. The château also hosts exhibitions, concerts in the orangery and events such as the Nuits au Château, sometimes featuring costumed tours. These activities open the venue at set times, rather than continuously.
