Based in the baie du Touron at Saint-Julien-du-Verdon, Club Nautique de Castillon offers sailing and several watersports on Lac de Castillon, between the hills of the Verdon and Val d'Allos. Founded in 1954, it is described as the first sailing club in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
What sailing courses are offered?
In 2026, the club advertises two summer courses at €110 per person:
- Catamaran: 4 half-days of 2 hours, from age 12, to learn or improve manoeuvres.
- Optimist: 4 half-days of 2 hours, for children aged 6 to 12, learning the basics of sailing.
Courses are supervised and require participants to be able to swim and put their head underwater. Sailing equipment and life jackets are provided.
Can you hire equipment?
Yes, but hire is restricted to members. Advertised rates in 2026 include:
- catamaran: €30 for the first hour, then €25 for subsequent hours;
- windsurfing: €20 for the first hour;
- stand-up paddleboard: €11 per hour;
- single kayak: €9 per hour; 2/3-person canoe: €12 per hour.
In July and August, hire is available daily according to the opening hours for each type of craft. Outside peak season, it is best to contact the club a few days in advance to check whether staff will be available.
What to know before visiting
Activities on the lake are advertised from May to October. Hiring sailing craft requires the ability to sail independently, and all participants must be able to swim.
Something extra
The club is not limited to sailing: paddleboarding, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and rowing offer ways to enjoy the lake at very different levels of exertion. The coves accessible from the baie du Touron also make canoeing or kayaking trips particularly worthwhile.
