In Escragnolles, in the countryside behind Grasse, the trail to the cascade de Clars leads to a spectacular waterfall nestled among limestone cliffs. Spring is an especially good time to see the falls when rain feeds the stream. This outing combines immersion in the scenery of the Préalpes d'Azur with wildlife discovery: in April 2026, Pays de Grasse organised a walk here devoted to birdsong.
Why visit?
The waterfall is a walking destination in its own right, far from the bustle of the coast. Around the valley, rocks, vegetation and the sound of falling water create a genuine escape into nature. Keen walkers can also choose a longer circular route taking in the Brainée megaliths, views from the Ubac and the waterfall.
What to know before setting off
The recommended starting point is the Cascade car park, chemin des Galants, in Escragnolles (06460). Not all routes are of equal difficulty: a documented 12 km, 4-hour-30-minute circular walk exists, but it is not an easy family stroll. Bring hiking shoes and check your chosen route before setting off. Rocky sections and stream crossings can be slippery or dangerous after heavy rain: do not attempt to cross when the current is strong. Do not confuse this walk with a regulated canyoning activity.
Something extra: in spring, enjoy the birdsong and potentially fuller falls, while keeping clear of riverbanks when the flow is strong.
