The La Grange Vieille hike reveals a quieter side of Lac de Saint-Cassien. It starts at the RN07 cistern car park on the D94, heading towards the Belluny area, at the coordinates given by the tourist office: 43.608913, 6.82778. Cross the road by the lake information panel and take the H14 Grange Vieille track. It follows the lakeside landscape and reaches some old ruins; there, take the path to the left, then continue straight ahead at the first fork. At the next fork, a path descends to the right through woodland towards a viewpoint facing the dam. Return by the same route. Allow around 1 hour 30 minutes and take the official route description. The lake is a hydroelectric reservoir in an important natural area for birds. The headland facing the dam is sensitive: swimming and fishing there are prohibited and dangerous. Respect nesting areas. This outing appeals to walkers interested in landscapes and hydraulic heritage rather than beachgoers.
