Heritage sites in Tanneron

The Saint-Cassien-des-Bois chapel stands beside the Siagne, at a historic crossing that linked Draguignan and Grasse, among other places. Away from the mimosa tourist trails, this small heritage site recalls the importance of the ford for trade and pilgrimages. From the Middle Ages, the site belonged to the Lérins estates: the chapel was linked to a former priory where travellers using the crossing could be charged a toll. The tourist office also recounts the traditional Saint-Cassien festival, once celebrated in July with mass and picnics by the river. This is not a monument that takes an hour to visit: the appeal lies in stopping outside the chapel, understanding the role of the old ford and enjoying the quiet riverbanks and hamlet. The tourist office describes a very short individual visit and opening arrangements that include a mention of 'by reservation': enquire before visiting if you wish to enter the building. Viewing the exterior is free.
