Explore Aventure offers canyoning across the Verdon, Artuby and hinterland, with introductory routes from age 8 and sporty canyons for teenagers and adults. The choice depends heavily on the season: some canyons, such as the Jabron, are particularly worthwhile in spring.
Which route should you choose?
- Bas Jabron in Trigance: from age 8, a half-day outing lasting at least 2 hours 30 minutes, with just a 5-minute approach. Great fun, but often dry in July and August: best in spring.
- Balène / Baou: introductory options for learning to abseil and enjoying water-based activities.
- Couloir Samson: river walking from age 8–10 depending on water levels, at the entrance to the Grand Canyon du Verdon.
- Saint-Auban: from around age 14, a very aquatic intermediate half-day with jumps, slides, abseiling and a long zip line.
- Ferne or Val d’Anguire: sporty full-day trips for groups in good physical condition.
What to know before visiting
You must be able to swim. Jumps are never compulsory: at Jabron, for example, an abseil provides an alternative to the big jump. Individual and group equipment is provided; bring swimwear, closed shoes, water and a snack.
A practical tip
Explore Aventure is based in Comps-sur-Artuby, but each activity has its own starting point: Trigance for Jabron, La Palud-sur-Verdon / Rougon for Couloir Samson and Saint-Auban for the canyon of the same name. Check the GPS meeting point sent when booking.
An added bonus
Jabron is an excellent introduction when water is flowing, but it is not a canyon to book blindly in midsummer. At that time of year, ask Fred which route genuinely offers the best conditions.
