In Roz-sur-Couesnon, Maison des Polders explains a lesser-known chapter of Mont-Saint-Michel Bay's history: how land once covered by the sea became farmland.
Reclaiming the landscape
Housed in a restored 17th-century building, the museum describes the construction of embankments and the removal of salt from around 3,000 hectares. Models, displays and projections trace the bay's transformation and explain the development of vegetable growing and cereal farming.
An extra detail worth knowing
It is a starting point for looking afresh at the fields, canals and embankments around Quatre Salines. Facilities are also provided for walkers.
The museum is at 3 rue des Mondrins. It opens seasonally, with access adapted for people with reduced mobility on both levels.
