A few kilometres from Mont-Saint-Michel, Moulin de Moidrey offers a hands-on encounter with heritage that is still in operation. Built in 1806, this windmill in Pontorson was restored and put back into use in the early 2000s.
Watch flour being made
The miller explains how the mechanism works and how grain is turned into flour. The mill processes wheat, rye and buckwheat, among other cereals. According to the tourist office, the guided tour lasts around 35 minutes.
Its connection to the bay
The mill forms part of the landscape heritage associated with Mont-Saint-Michel and the area recognised by UNESCO since 2007. It is a short stop, very different from the Mont's religious monuments.
The mill is at 35 route des Moulins, Pontorson. Opening arrangements vary during the year.
