Lac de Saint-Cassien, in the Var, is a large reservoir in the Pays de Fayence, bordered by Montauroux, Callian, Tanneron and Les Adrets-de-l'Estérel. Visitors come to swim in summer, enjoy the beaches, take to the water without petrol-powered engines or walk along the shore.
Where can you swim at Lac de Saint-Cassien?
A developed beach near the Maison du Lac, on the Tanneron side, has lifeguard supervision in summer on dates announced each year. Other beaches and relaxation areas line the lake, particularly near watersports centres. Please note: not all swimming areas are supervised.
What activities can you do on the lake?
Centres along the shores offer outings on pedalos, canoes and paddleboards. The lake is also known for rowing and fishing, particularly for carp. Watersports are regulated and petrol-powered engines are prohibited. Choose your departure point according to the activity and part of the lake you want to explore.
Can you walk around the lake?
From the Maison du Lac, a path of approximately 3 km follows the shore. Other routes use the GR49 and offer views of the water and wooded hills. The Fondurane area is a protected natural site: respect its access rules and tranquillity.
Access and parking
As a first reference point, head to the Maison du Lac, RD37, 83440 Tanneron, with its tourist information point and access to a developed beach. From the A8 motorway, exit 39 Fayence / Les Adrets, follow signs for the lake and Montauroux. Several car parks serve the beaches and leisure centres. A free shuttle operated during summer 2026; check whether it will run again and on which dates in future seasons.
The best place to settle depends on your plans: supervised family swimming in season near the Maison du Lac, watersports at the centres or a walk along the shores.
