The Mont Thou to Mont Cindre hike begins in Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or and crosses the hills of the Monts d'Or northwest of Lyon. The route alternates rural paths, ridges and built-up areas, with several viewpoints over the Lyon metropolitan area.
8.6 km between two Monts d'Or summits
The official loop covers around 8.6 km, takes about three hours and involves 261 metres of ascent. The starting point is Place de la République in Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or.
The trail reaches the Mont Thou area and then Mont Cindre before returning to the village. It crosses scenery shaped by historic stone quarrying and winegrowing, leaving dry-stone walls, cabornes (small stone huts) and other rural heritage.
The main trail markings are yellow. Several sections follow rural paths protected under the departmental and metropolitan walking and hiking route plan.
This loop stands out for its closeness to Lyon while still providing a genuinely hilly walk, two Monts d'Or summits and visible traces of local rural history.
