About two kilometres from the village of Fayence, the Notre-Dame-des-Cyprès chapel stands among the vineyards. Built in the 10th or 11th century, it is thought to have been the first local parish. Its Romanesque bell tower, carefully laid stones and interior decorations dedicated to the Virgin Mary bear witness to rural and spiritual Provence.
What the guide will show you
The tour explains why this sanctuary was built away from the present-day village. Highlights include paintings, a marble altar, a tabernacle and an altarpiece depicting the life of the Virgin Mary. Devotion to Notre-Dame is celebrated here on 8 September.
Before visiting
The address is quartier Notre-Dame, on the D19, not in the historic centre of Fayence. In 2026, the tourist office offers a guided tour on Wednesday afternoons with advance registration, subject to a stated minimum of four participants; indicative price €5 per adult, free for under-18s. The Fayence Patrimoine association also organises summer visits: slots vary by organiser. Contact the tourist office to confirm times, interior access and booking arrangements.
The little extra: the chapel is also worth visiting for its setting among vineyards, very different from the atmosphere of Fayence's narrow streets.
