At the end of Lac de Saint-Cassien, the protected Fondurane site combines reedbeds, willow groves, wet meadows and woodland. The Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur reports many bird species here, especially migratory and wintering birds, alongside a wide variety of insects and European pond turtles.
Route: a path of approximately 5 km, described as easy by the site manager. Access from the D562 via chemin de Fondurane; the trail starts to the right of the reserve car park, on the other side of the road. Bring binoculars to watch birds without disturbing them.
Protected site with regulations: stay on marked paths. Dogs must be kept on leads; collecting specimens, fires, camping and disturbances are prohibited. Respect any temporary restrictions imposed by the manager.
