In Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne, the Grotte de Saint-Cézaire is visited around 40 metres underground along a developed 200-metre route. A guided tour reveals flowstone draperies, stalactites and rock formations of many shapes in a cave that stays at 15°C year-round.
40 minutes beneath the limestone Prealps
The tour lasts around 40 minutes and is led by a guide, in French or English depending on departure times. The path descends gradually into the cave, highlighting formations created by water. The guide may even gently tap certain stalactites to demonstrate their sounds.
A cave discovered by chance in 1890
The cave was discovered on 16 June 1890 by a farmer. It has since been developed to allow visitors to explore the limestone beneath the Grasse Prealps without specialist caving equipment.
Visiting in 2026
The 2026 season runs from 8 February to 11 November. The cave stays at 15°C, so a warm layer is useful even when it is hot outside. In June, July and August, the site opens from 10 am to 7 pm.
2026 admission prices
The guided tour costs €10.50 for adults and €7 for children aged 3–15; children under three enter free. Special arrangements are available for groups of 20 or more with advance booking.
Saint-Cézaire stands out for the ease of moving from the Mediterranean landscapes of the Prealps into a cool underground world filled with limestone formations, all in under an hour.
