In Tourrettes, the village itself is the museum. More than a hundred paintings and sculptures are permanently displayed in the cobbled lanes and on façades, doors and shutters, turning this hilltop village in the Pays de Fayence into a surprising open-air art gallery. Discover works around corners of the old lanes, among stone walls, shady squares and artists' studios.
What can you see on the walk?
The Tourrettes heritage trail, documented by the tourist office, combines contemporary artworks with washhouses, vaulted passageways, fountains, the clock tower and historic chapels. Allow approximately 2 km and 1 hour, on a route rated very easy by the office, although lanes are steep and there is more than 100 m of cumulative elevation gain. Some studios welcome visitors during opening hours, but artists may not be present.
How should you plan your visit?
The trail starts at the chapelle des Pénitents, 61 Grande Rue, or at the free Boudoura car park below. Wear walking shoes: the cobbles can be uneven. An audio-guide version and a route trace are available on the Pays de Fayence tourist office website. The chapelle des Pénitents is temporarily closed for renovation in 2026: view it from outside. You can also book a guided tour with the office if you would like accompaniment.
The extra touch: seek out the works incorporated into doors and shutters rather than focusing only on statues: this living museum is all about the dialogue between art and village architecture.
