In the centre of Montauroux, Chapelle Saint-Barthélemy conceals a spectacular interior behind its modest façade: its walls and barrel vault are completely covered with painted wooden panels. Built in the 17th century on the ruins of a fortress, it belonged to Christian Dior, who donated it to the municipality. Its interior decoration is protected as a historic monument.
Why choose a guided visit?
The tourist office recounts the history of the former fortress and the famous fashion designer's attachment to the village, where he owned Château de la Colle Noire. The painted panelling is the main surprise: its richness is impossible to guess from outside.
Before you visit
The chapel is on Place du Clos. In 2026, the tourist office advertises a guided visit by registration, usually on Tuesday afternoons, with a minimum of four participants. Indicative price: €5 per adult, with free admission advertised for under-18s. Official publications differ on the registration deadline: telephone the tourist office to confirm the departure and exact time. Do not confuse access to the site with permanent opening of its interior.
The story: the chapel is a tangible legacy of Dior's love for this corner of Provence.
