In Montauroux, the municipal olive mill keeps genuine Provençal expertise alive: when the olives arrive for pressing, visitors can see two old stone millstones and learn how this mill, once powered by water, works. The site was bequeathed to the municipality in 1948 by Eugène Segond; it is now maintained and operated by municipal staff.
What you will enjoy
- Seeing a traditional mill that is still operating, rather than a simple heritage display.
- Understanding how olives are turned into oil through explanations from the millers.
- Combining this discovery with a walk through the hilltop village of Montauroux.
Good to know before you visit
The free visit is only available during the pressing season, in autumn and winter. Dates and times can change from one season to another: check the Pays de Fayence Tourist Office listing before travelling. This is not a museum that is permanently open.
